Continuing Students

Many of NMSU's Institutional Scholarships are renewable for up to 8 semesters (Fall and Spring semesters, unless otherwise stated. See below to find the renewal requirements for each scholarship for continuing students (those who started at NMSU Fall 2021 or before). For students incoming Fall 2022 and after, take a look at our current Scholarships.

Starting Fall 2016, NMSU will withhold 14% tax on non-qualified scholarships issued to NRA students.

Any GPA will not be rounded to any single decimal but acknowledged as the exact number documented in academic records. 

Students are also encouraged to fill out a Scholar Dollar$ application to apply for NMSU departmental scholarships. Scholar Dollar$ opens October 1st for the next academic year, with a priority deadline of March 1st. Please keep in mind, before you can use Scholar Dollar$, you need to Apply to NMSU.

These scholarships and eligibility were effective for new students entering in the Fall of 2021, and pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. Scholarships are applicable for fall and spring semesters only and are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year. Students must have met GPA, enrollment, and application criteria to qualify.

In-State Top Scholarships

The following scholarships cover tuition and fees, have varying stipends, and a one-year housing award. The tuition portion of this award is funded by the Legislative Lottery Scholarship starting the second semester.

President's Associates Excellence Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.80 and above GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. Students must be attending their first regular semester after graduating from high school. Tuition and required fees. $3,250 stipend per academic year and the one-year NMSU Housing Award. Awarded using a blind selection process with a maximum of 15 awards offered each year. 3.25 GPA first semester (3.5 cumulative GPA thereafter) and pass 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester Must have submitted a Scholar Dollar$ application with required credentials on file by December 1, 2020.

Conroy Honors Scholars

 

3.8 GPA as reported by high school transcripts submitted to the Admissions Office. For high school graduates, including students that are also simultaneously completing an early college degree. Tuition and required fees. If the student already qualifies for an institutional or tuition-based scholarship, i.e. NM Lottery Scholarship, the Conroy Honors Scholars award covers the remaining amount after those awards disburse. Eligible to receive a $2500 Global Citizen Award to help fund a study abroad experience with guidance from the Honors College. Complete the first semester of college with a 3.25 GPA and pass 15 new-main campus credit hours. Thereafter, maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA and pass 15 new Las Cruces campus credits every semester, and complete Honors College program requirements. NM State-funded Scholarship

Students must be first-time enrolled degree-seeking students for the Legislative Lottery Scholarship during their first semester at NMSU. Qualifying students will begin receiving it during their second semester. The Legislative Lottery Scholarship amount is subject to change by the New Mexico Higher Education Department or the New Mexico Legislature.

In-State Institutional Scholarships

These scholarships and eligibility were effective for new students entering in the Fall of 2021, and pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. Scholarships are applicable for fall and spring semesters only and are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year. Students must have met GPA, enrollment, and application criteria to qualify. A student may qualify for only one Institutional Scholarship (excluding the NMSU Housing Award).

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.80 and above GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. Students must be attending their first regular semester after graduating from high school. $6,500 per academic year. Limited number available. 3.5 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester Must have submitted a Scholar Dollar$ application with required credentials on file by December 1, 2020.

Hadley Honors Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.80 and above GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. Crimson Success Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.60-3.79 GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $4,000 per academic year. Limited number available. 3.0 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester Must have admitted to NMSU with required transcripts and ACT/SAT scores on file by February 1, 2021.

1888 Leadership Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.40-3.59 GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $3,000 per academic year. Limited number available. 2.7 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester None

'A' Mountain Merit Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.20-3.39 GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $1,500 per academic year. Limited number available. 2.5 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester None

Pete's Opportunity Scholarship

 

For Fall 2021 new students, 3.00-3.19 GPA. No ACT/SAT scores will be required. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $1,000 per academic year. 2.25 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new Las Cruces campus credits per semester. None

 

Out-of-State Scholarships

The following Out-of-State Scholarships may be awarded in addition to an Out-of-State Tuition Discount listed below (a student can qualify for only one scholarship and one tuition discount, excluding the NMSU Housing Award). Out-of-State Scholarships are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated. Students must be admitted and enrolled in 15 credit hours at NMSU’s Main campus to receive these scholarships.

New Mexico Tribal Member Out-of-State Tuition Discount

 

Tribal-enrolled members of the 24 American Indian Nations, Pueblos or Tribes, located wholly or partially in NM who are out-of-state residents. Up to $17,621 per academic year toward reducing non-resident tuition. Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Transfer Scholarships

These scholarships were effective for new students entering in the Fall of 2021 while pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. Transfer Scholarships are renewable for one consecutive year, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated. They are applicable to fall and spring semesters only. State-funded Scholarship

New Mexico resident transfer students can continue to receive their Legislative Lottery Scholarship award for the remaining semesters as indicated by previous institutions, if eligible. These renewal requirements are effective for continuing students who entered within 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 academic years in pursuit of their first Bachelor's degree. They are applicable to fall and spring semesters only and are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated. Students must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus to receive these scholarships.
