|January/February||Receive prior year’s W2 forms and end-of-the-year benefit statements and complete your federal tax returns (if necessary). Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or update your Renewal Application.|
|March/April||March 1st is the priority deadline to file for aid. NMSU accesses your FAFSA electronically and sends letters or emails requesting additional documentation, copies of federal tax returns, end-of-the-year benefit statements, etc.|
|May/June||Academic progress is reviewed and financial aid award packages are released. You can access your NMSU electronic award letter by selecting Financial Aid at myNMSU. First-time student loan borrowers must complete online Entrance Counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) before their loans can be processed.|
|August||Students should finalize their Financial Aid before school starts. The disbursement schedule can be found here. Students awarded work-study funds must find employment within the first 30 days of class or funds will be canceled.|
|October||Starting October 1st, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or update your Renewal Application.|
|January||Spring aid is disbursed.|
