NM Resident Freshmen

NOTE: The application cycle for the President’s Associates, High Achiever and Honors Excel scholarships has begun for the 2014-2015 academic year.  The application opened on October 1st, 2013 for the 2014-2015 application cycle.  Please apply for these scholarships by December 9th, 2013.

Many of these scholarships require:

  • N.M. residency
  • Confirmation of graduation from an accredited New Mexico high school or a passing NM GED
  • Admission to the Las Cruces campus no later than February 17
  • Full-time enrollment each semester at the Las Cruces campus
  • Seeking a bachelor’s degree
  • Consecutive enrollment

Eligibility and renewal criteria vary and some scholarships may require an online NMSU scholarship application. Review each scholarship for details.

President’s Associates Excellence Scholarship

Incoming Freshmen must submit the Scholar Dollar$ scholarship application by December 9th, 2013. to be considered for this award.
Award: Standard tuition and fees plus $1,625/semester. Number of awards limited.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrolled in minimum of 15 new credit hours at the Las Cruces campus the first regular semester immediately following graduation from a NM high school**
  • NM resident
  • NMSU scholarship application submitted no later than December 9th, 2013.
  • Seeking a Bachelor Degree
  • 3.75 GPA & 28 ACT or 3.5 GPA & 30 ACT
  • FAFSA Submitted by March 1st

Renewal Requirements:

  • Minimum enrollment of 15 new credit hours each semester
  • 3.25 semester GPA first semester and 3.5 cumulative GPA thereafter
  • Completion of 15 new graded credit hours at the Las Cruces campus each semester**
  • 8 semester maximum or attainment of a Bachelor Degree (graduation), whichever comes first

High Achiever Leadership Scholarship

Incoming Freshmen must submit the Scholar Dollar$ scholarship application by December 9th, 2013. to be considered for this award.
Award: Standard tuition and fees plus $1,000/semester. Number of awards limited.

  • Enrolled in minimum of 15 new credit hours at the Las Cruces campus the first regular semester immediately following graduation from a NM high school**
  • NM resident
  • NMSU scholarship application submitted no later than December 9th, 2013.
  • Seeking a Bachelor Degree
  • 3.75 GPA & 28 ACT or 3.5 GPA & 30 ACT
  • FAFSA Submitted by March 1st

Honors Excel Scholarship

Award: Standard tuition and fees plus $500/semester. Number of awards limited.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrolled in minimum of 15 new credit hours at the Las Cruces campus the first regular semester immediately following graduation from a NM high school**
  • NM resident
  • NMSU scholarship application submitted no later than December 9th, 2013.
  • Seeking a Bachelor Degree
  • 3.75 GPA & 24 ACT or 26 ACT
  • FAFSA Submitted by March 1st

Renewal Requirements:

  • Minimum enrollment of 15 new credit hours each semester
  • 3.25 semester GPA first semester and 3.5 cumulative GPA thereafter
  • Completion of 15 new graded credit hours at the Las Cruces campus each semester**

Regents Success Scholarship

Incoming Freshmen admitted by March 3rd will automatically be considered on the basis of GPA and ACT data.
Award: Standard tuition and fees

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrolled in minimum of 15 new credit hours at the Las Cruces campus the first regular semester immediately following graduation from a NM high school**
  • NM resident
  • Admission to the Las Cruces campus no later than February 15th
  • Seeking a Bachelor Degree
  • 3.5 GPA & 23 ACT or 3.75 GPA
  • FAFSA Submitted by March 1st

Renewal Requirements:

  • Minimum enrollment of 15 new credit hours each semester
  • 3.0 semester GPA first semester and 3.0 cumulative GPA thereafter
  • Completion of 15 new graded credit hours at the Las Cruces campus each semester**
  • 8 semester maximum or attainment of a Bachelor Degree (graduation), whichever comes first

New Mexico Legislative Lottery Scholarship

The New Mexico Legislative Lottery Scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified students beginning in the second semester of their freshman year. No application is necessary; however, we strongly recommend that students complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at http://fafsa.ed.gov.

Award: Tuition ONLY, varying amounts. (Stated semester rates at NMSU include both tuition and required fees.)

To qualify for the Lottery Scholarship, students must:

  • Be a New Mexico resident.
  • Enroll in college the semester immediately following (1) graduation from a New Mexico high school, (2) earning a New Mexico certificate of completion, or (3) receiving a New Mexico high school equivalency credential. Home-school students must have a high school equivalency credential dated prior to the entering semester.
  • Be degree seeking.
  • Pass 15 new graded credit hours (12 at a community college) by the end of the first semester.
  • Earn a 2.5 GPA or greater for the first semester.

To maintain eligibility for the scholarship, students must:

  • Complete 15 new graded credit hours (12 at a community college) each semester.
  • Maintains a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

This scholarship is valid for seven semesters total (three at a community college and transferable to a 4-year university) or until the student earns a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

The amount of the Lottery Scholarship is set annually by June 1 by the New Mexico Higher Education Department and can only be applied to tuition. Students are responsible for unpaid tuition and fees, unless other scholarships or grants cover these costs.

The rules and regulations for the Lottery Scholarship for all students, legacy or otherwise, are determined by and are subject to change by the New Mexico Higher Education Department and the New Mexico Legislature.

Opportunity Scholarship

Incoming Freshmen admitted by March 3rd will automatically be considered on the basis of GPA and ACT data.
Award: $1,000 First Semester Only

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrolled in minimum of 12 new credit hours at the Las Cruces campus the first regular semester immediately following graduation from a NM high school**
  • NM resident
  • Admission to the Las Cruces campus no later than February 15th
  • Seeking a Bachelor Degree
  • 3.0 GPA or 21 ACT
  • Enrolled in 12 new credit hours
  • FAFSA Submitted by March 1st
