Starting this fall, the NMSU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services Office is introducing two new, very important sweeping changes that will affect most financial aid packages.
Special Freshman Disbursement
- First, all freshman student loan borrowers, regardless of age or dependency status, will be required to wait 30 days before funds are disbursed to the student’s University Accounts Receivable (UAR) Student Account. After waiting this 30 day period, you will no longer be required to wait before receiving additional loans in subsequent semesters.
- As mentioned, this applies to all first time freshman student loan borrowers regardless of age or dependency status – that means that this change affects traditional and non-traditional students alike. Please see the first-time freshman loan special disbursement page for information about how your funds are disbursed.
Real Budgets for Real Students
- Second, beginning in Fall 2013, students who complete a FAFSA will be given a personalized NMSU Financial Aid Budget. Your new budget is accessible from the Student tab of my.nmsu.edu and will use information from your student record to more accurately estimate your expenses for an academic year. Your budget will reflect your estimated campus expenses based on your residency, enrollment, and housing, among other items.
- Keep in mind, this budget could change to reflect any updates you make to your student record. For details on this new feature, please visit the Cost of Attendance page on the NMSU Financial Aid website. To view your budget, please refer to your my.nmsu.edu account.
