Application Calendar
| January | You and your parents receive prior year's W2 forms and end-of-the-year benefit statements and complete your federal tax returns (if necessary.) |
| February | Using federal tax return and end-of-the-year benefit statement information, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or update your Renewal Application. Either mail for processing in the provided envelope, or you may submit your Financial Aid information via the internet at FAFSA. Check with the NMSU Scholarship office for early deadlines. The NMSU main campus deadline is March 1st. Branch campus students should check with their respective branch offices for details. Entering freshman and transfer students may participate in NMSU Freshman Visitor's Day. Contact the Admissions Office for details. |
| March/April | You receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail from the Department of Education's processing center. NMSU accesses your data electronically and sends letters requesting additional documentation, such as copies of federal tax returns, end-of-the-year benefit statements, etc. March 1st is the priority deadline to file for aid and have funds ready for fall disbursement. |
| May/June | Academic progress is reviewed. You receive your O fficial Award Notification Letter, sign and return one copy to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services. NOTE: First-time Stafford student loan borrowers (at NMSU) must attend a Debt Management Counseling Session before their financial aid advisors can process their loans. |
| June/July | If you apply for loans , promissory note paperwork
is processed during this time.

| August | During the first days of the fall semester, aid is disbursed. All first-time borrowers must attend one Debt Management Counseling Session. |
| December | Academic progress is reviewed. |
| January | Spring aid is disbursed. Begin applying for the following year's financial aid. |
